The Lake County sheriff’s office responded to reports of a shooting at a Beach Park strip mall near the intersection of Lewis Avenue and Wadsworth Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Chris Covelli said it appeared no one was killed in the shooting, but further details were not immediately available.

A witness on the scene shortly after the incident said there was a confrontation between two people in cars near Hoeksema’s Mini-Mart Beer and Liquor. Gunfire erupted, and shortly thereafter both cars drove away.

One car traveled west down Wadsworth Road, while the other drove east from the scene, coming to a stop nearby Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church and the intersection of Wadsworth and Gabriel Avenue, according to the witness.

Paramedics arrived on the scene, and the witness said blood was visible in one of the vehicles involved.

Some shattered glass and abandoned shoes remained behind at the shooting scene, where police had laid out more than 30 evidence markers and cordoned off the strip mall.

It was not immediately clear whether Tuesday’s shooting had any connection to three shootings in Waukegan and North Chicago last Wednesday.
