The medical examiner’s office said he had been identified as Jalen Parker, 21, of the 7500 block of South Chappel Avenue, which that agency said was the same location where the shooting occurred. Chicago police initially had said he was 22 and Sally Bown, a police spokeswoman, said investigators list the location of the shooting as the 2000 block of East 75th Street. Bown said it wasn’t clear where the ShotSpotter alert was set off or how many gunshots were heard.

Scannell is not seeking financial incentives directly from the village, such as creation of a tax increment financing district, but the village will likely be asked to support a resolution seeking a property tax break through Cook County, according to Kimberly Clarke, the village’s community development director.
