The project, which will be located at 79th Street, will involve more than just building a new station. The bridge on which Metra’s tracks run will need to be raised to provide Norfolk Southern, which has tracks to go under the bridge, with higher clearance for its freight trains, said Meg Reile, a Metra spokesperson. The station and the raised bridge will be more than 40 feet above street level when complete.

Sherry Phillips, 61, who has lived in Englewood all her life and has known Dawson for almost all of his, says that the deliveries help her partly because health issues make it difficult for her to go outside or carry things. For Phillips, the best thing about the food Dawson delivers is that it’s fresh and saves her money. At the Whole Foods near her, “the price is crazy.” Englewood’s median income is $22,127, making the prices of Whole Foods, one of the two main grocery stores in the area, inaccessible. According to a community survey run in 2019 by the Inner-City Muslim Action Network, the organization spreadheading Go Green on Racine, fewer than 20% of Englewood’s community shops at Whole Foods.

Although it’s too soon to deduce the damage the storms could cause, residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid windows, according to the weather service. In particular, residents of Wisconsin towns such as Green Bay, Milwaukee and Racine and potentially those in the Chicago area should bring in any outdoor furniture or loose structures, and ensure that they have backup power supplies, said AccuWeather meteorologist Smerbeck.

Lucas, who authorities say had multiple warrants for his arrest, was armed with a pistol and pointed the gun at the officers, according to a statement from state police. The officers then fired at Lucas, striking and killing him, state police said. Lucas was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:19 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Statewide, 27,155 vaccine doses were administered Tuesday, the most in a single day since July 2. But over the past week, the state is averaging just 17,982 doses per day, with nearly 44% of the eligible population still unvaccinated. During the week ending July 1, the state average was 41,150 doses per day.
