In an effort to reengage students, many of whom hadn’t seen the inside of a classroom in a year and a half, CPS said Wednesday that its staffers reached out to about 85,000 students through canvassing, phone banking and marketing campaigns, and that they made contact with about 80% of that group ahead of the start of school. CPS also said about thousands of students with the “greatest challenges to getting to school” were offered “intensive support.”
“If you look at us playing every day for six months, you can have a meeting that ends up being meaningless. They just tune you out,” La Russa said. “We have a meeting before every series, how you’re going to pitch, how you’re going to hit. If you have too many meetings, you’re not a very good club. … Our goal is to compete with the guys who are playing, and if there’s any drop-off, you say, ‘Let’s go get back on it.’
With more people flying, travelers can’t count on breezing through near-empty airports. “As a civic institution, we acknowledge our responsibility to rebuild the volunteer educator program in a way that allows community members of all income levels to participate, responds to issues of class and income equity, and does not require financial flexibility to participate,” said Stein, who was hired by the museum in March. “Rather than refresh our current program, systems, and processes, we feel that now is the time to rebuild our program from the ground up.”
A few years ago, Elkins was charged in Michigan with sexually abusing a teen at a family party a year earlier, records show. He pleaded guilty in August 2016 to misdemeanor charges, including battery and disorderly conduct, in exchange for a year of probation and a $1,200 fine.
“Just getting reps with the offense instead of just working with the scout offense, it’s definitely going to have me more prepared and I’m excited,” Fields said. “I think (my teammates) have a lot of trust in me. Them having my back and having confidence in me that I’m going to go out there and execute, that’s kept me comfortable and kept me poised and confident.
