The 11-year-old had been in the living room of a residence in the 4000 block of South King Drive in Bronzeville with two other children when one of them, an 8-year-old, accidentally fired a handgun around 2 a.m. Sunday, police said in a statement. The 11-year-old was struck in the thigh and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where he had been listed in fair condition.
Joshua James, who lived in the 9900 block of South LaSalle Street in Fernwood, Sunday was identified as the man who was fatally shot, according to information from the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Police said he was 29; the medical examiner’s office said he was 39. It was not immediately clear which agency had James’ correct age.

“I am not sure if it gives us momentum but I’m 100% sure it doesn’t give (the Mercury) any,” Wade said. “You don’t want to give someone a false confidence where they can say, ‘OK, this is what we did at the end.’ When the bench first came in, they were trying to get to a place where they could get some chemistry, and once they did we were able to distance ourselves more.”
“You see it on tape (with Fields). You can see it on TV. And then to be able to see it live and have it firsthand, and to see how he handles situations, there’s a calm for all of us,” Nagy said. “The fact that he’s that way, that’s a strength that not everybody has. When you play in front of over 100,000 people for all your (Ohio State) home games, it certainly helps you. And when you’re in these moments in the NFL, you’re able to use that to your advantage.”
