Lewis canvassed the South Shore community with volunteers in 2018 and 2019 to ask South Shore residents what they needed to thrive, what they thought the community needed and what they wanted the community to look like. Hundreds of voices were heard. The information collected was then organized into the following categories: environmental/infrastructure, safety, education, leisure, youth development, economic opportunity, housing, health, politics and spirituality/humanitarianism. The data was processed with the guidance of sociology faculty at the University of Pennsylvania.
“As someone born and raised on Chicago’s Southwest Side and a lifelong resident of its surrounding suburbs, fighting for workers, small businesses, and the middle-class in these communities is in my DNA, and that fight is not going to stop now,” Newman said in a statement.
“Each engraving, whether it is my grandfather’s name, my uncle’s or mine, carries a sense of reverence, respect and humility,” Rocky Wirtz wrote. “No other trophy of sport compares to the Stanley Cup and what it represents: hard work, perseverance, sacrifice, athleticism and teamwork. For the Chicago Blackhawks, no words can describe the pride in winning the trophy.”
The company raised $350 million in funding earlier this year, led by new investor SoftBank, bringing its total financing to more than $500 million. Preliminary spring testing data also shows far fewer students met grade-level standards in English language arts and math, with the results of the Illinois Assessment of Readiness taken by students in Grades 3 to 8, and the SAT, taken by 11th grade students, showing nearly 17% fewer students met grade-level standards in English language arts in 2021 than in 2019.
Kelly, who is currently being held at the federal lockup in Brooklyn, faces 10 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced in May. The other members of his legal team, Deveraux Cannick, Thomas Farinella, and Nicole Blank Becker, will continue to work on sentencing issues, Bonjean said.
