Cockburn, a preseason All-American and player of the year candidate, leads the nation in scoring at 26.6 points per game. He did not take a shot in the first 12 minutes but finished the first half with 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting. For the game, he was 11 of 16 from the field and made 6 of 9 free throws.
“Even when I struggled offensively and I couldn’t find my way, (my teammates) were still finding me, they were still looking for me,” Vučević said. “I just had to find my rhythm. … We’re trying to establish something, and when you feel like you’re not helping as much as you should, it bothers you and annoys you. So that was the main thing for me. I was just hoping to get out of that so I can help the team more.”

“I don’t have to compete and play against the best players in the world to have a great life,” he said. “After my back fusion, I had to climb Mt. Everest one more time. I had to do it, and I did. This time around, I don’t think I’ll have the body to climb Mt. Everest, and that’s OK. I can still participate in the game of golf. I can still, if my leg gets OK, I can still click off a tournament here or there.
“I started trying to help her get out and she said, ‘Just tend to my son,’” Vera said. “So I went back across the street. He didn’t want me to leave his sight. He wanted me to stay right next to him. I was holding him until the ambulance came and got him. He was a wonderful boy. I just kept telling him, ‘It’s OK, you did good,’ telling him a lot of positive things.”
