Jenkins knew Allen well, both on the field and in the clubhouse. They first met at Class A Williamsport, Pa., in 1962 after Jenkins, then 19, signed with the Phillies out of Canada. They were briefly teammates in 1963 at Triple-A Little Rock, Ark., where the Phillies sent Allen to break the color barrier in the state. The team failed to adequately handle the situation, forcing Allen to endure constant racism and threats that left an impact on him.
“We really feel like he was improving as the games went by for him individually, our team, our offense,” coach Matt Nagy said. “There are still places where we can certainly improve. As a staff, we felt like we were really getting a good feel for where he was, and then he gets injured. So then for him to come back against a big division opponent and rival, I know that he’s excited for it.”

Billy escaped when she was released from the trailer, according to another of her co-owners, Bob Kryscha. Billy’s sister was unloaded successfully and has adjusted well to life on the farm, he said. The lawsuit accuses Adamson of receiving approximately $300,000 from the preservation council since 2017 and alleges that Adamson and Warfel tried to characterize a $120,000 loan to Adamson in 2017 as reimbursement for a debt the preservation council owed. Additionally, Adamson allegedly received $72,000 in 2018, which was characterized as rent paid after the preservation council sold its property, and in 2021, the preservation council allegedly paid Adamson approximately $109,303 for unknown purposes, the statement said.
