Announced last fall, the pilot will serve as an alternative for misconduct complaints, which usually lead to a COPA investigation. For certain situations, such as perceived bias or failures to provide service, the new program will have the complainant and police officer meet face-to-face with the assistance of a mediator to hash out the issue, according to a city news release.
CTA, like other Chicago-area public transit agencies, receives funding from a variety of sources, including sales taxes. Traditionally, at least 50% of funding across all the regional agencies must come from fares or other revenue the agencies generate themselves. During the pandemic, the agencies have also received federal funds they can use to keep trains and buses running.
Throughout the pandemic, federal emergency rental assistance funds have been available through multiple agencies, including the state, city of Chicago and Cook County. This breach affected only applicants to the program run by IHDA, which administers federal pandemic aid for the state.
Under Illinois law, “a person commits a hate crime when, by reason of the actual or perceived race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, citizenship, immigration status, or national origin of another individual or group of individuals.”

“Last week, the league stated that we will review and consider Ms. Johnston’s allegations as we would any others regarding workplace conduct at the Washington Commanders. The league, not the team, will conduct an independent investigation and will be retaining an investigator to determine the facts shortly,” McCarthy said.
