An Aurora man who missed his trial after jumping bail faces a mandatory life sentence in prison for sexually assaulting two children — after a jury found him guilty, officials said.
On Sept. 20, Jose Arellano, 47, of the 500 block of Morton Avenue, was found guilty by a jury of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual assault, Kane County state’s attorney’s officials said in a news release.

Prosecutors said that between September 2010 and May 2020, Arellano sexually assaulted two children, both of whom were younger than 13 years old.
Arellano’s location is unknown and he was not present for the trial. He had posted a $30,000 bond on July 6, 2020 and was last seen Dec. 8, 2021, when he appeared remotely for a hearing, officials said.

When he failed to appear for the next hearing on March 29, Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo issued a warrant for his arrest.
Arellano’s sentencing will take place on Nov. 18.
