Another speaker, Johannes Favi, said he came from the West African country of Benin in 2013 on a visitor visa, and was in the process of applying for a green card sponsored by his U.S. citizen wife. But immigration agents held him in custody in Kentucky in 2019, the AP reported, in connection with a 2015 financial crime to which he pleaded guilty. He said he was “snatched” from his family for almost a year, and missed the birth of his second child.
