An officer was discovered fatally wounded early Saturday morning after her shift on the South Side in the Avalon Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 1:45 a.m., she was found with a gunshot wound in the 8100 block of South Blackstone Avenue. A responding officer rendered aid, and she was transported to a local hospital where she died of her injuries, police said.
The officer had just completed her shift.
No one was in custody for the fatal shooting, and detectives were investigating.
