Chicagoans can expect to see sunny — or at least mostly sunny — skies for much of the rest of the week, along with warmer temperatures, according to the National Weather Service Chicago.

“We’re going to see mild weather throughout the week,” said Mike Bardou, a meteorologist with the weather service.

Bardou said highs inland from Lake Michigan will sit around 70 on Monday and in the lower 60s at the lakefront, while lows tonight will be in the upper 40s inland and around 50 closer to the lake along with a “light wind.”

Sunny or mostly sunny skies are expected until at least Friday, Bardou said, with high temperatures for the rest of the week in the mid- to upper 70s and lows in the 50s. The next chance of any precipitation is not until Saturday.

Wednesday is shaping up to be a “breezy day,” Bardou said, with 20 mph wind and gusts up to 30 mph. The main concern with the climate being warm and dry, especially on Wednesday, is the risk of brush and grass fires, which could rapidly spread.

The weather service also posted an update about the area’s severe weather at the end of March with a new total of 22 tornadoes that were reported across the forecast area, at least 16 of which were in Illinois. The new total is tied for the most tornadoes to ever occur in a calendar day within the 23 counties the local service covers in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.
