Chicago, IL – Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot’s reelection campaign announced today that it raised $1.5 million during the fourth quarter of 2022.
For months, the Lightfoot for Chicago campaign has communicated with voters thanks to a robust field operation and a series of television ads highlighting the Mayor’s successes, including leading the city through the pandemic, attracting new companies and creating thousands of jobs, and implementing a public safety plan that is reducing violence across the city.
Since 2019, Mayor Lightfoot has undertaken an ambitious agenda of expanding opportunity, promoting inclusive economic growth across neighborhoods and communities, and working to make Chicago a safer and stronger city for all. She has led the city through the unprecedented challenges of a global pandemic with tough, fair leadership – all while delivering real results for Chicago.
While her opponents are all talk — spouting values statements or borrowed policy proposals — Mayor Lightfoot has done the work. Since her election, she has:
- Implemented a public safety plan that has put more officers on our streets, confiscated thousands of illegal guns, and increased funding for street outreach and community-based violence prevention by 1400%.
- Established the Community Safety Coordination Center to coordinate every city agency — not just the police — to address the root causes of violence, with a focus on the 15 communities that historically experience almost 50 percent of violence.
- Launched the INVEST South/West Initiative to mobilize more than $2.2 billion in public and private investment commitments to create inclusive economic growth and reverse historic disinvestment on our South and West sides.
- Increased the minimum wage to $15 for hundreds of thousands of workers and eliminated exemptions that allowed workers with disabilities to be paid a subminimum wage.
- Invested $25 million to launch the first “citywide strategic plan” to address gender-based violence and human trafficking.
- Established the first independent civilian oversight body for the Chicago Police Department to increase transparency and accountability.
- Raised the mental health budget sevenfold, funding mental health resources in all 77 community areas by the end of 2022.
- Placed the largest investment in affordable housing in city history, pledging more than $1 billion to build new and preserve existing homes.
- Secured $145 million in Head Start and Early Head Start awards to ensure that Chicago’s young children — regardless of the situation they are born into — are ready to learn, and more.
