A Chicago man believed to have stabbed a man with a screwdriver during a robbery at a Naperville health club has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, Naperville police said.

Allen G. White, 65, of the 5000 block of Loomis, also faces counts of armed robbery, aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, burglary and possession of burglary tools in connection with the June 5 incident in the 3000 block of South Route 59, a new release said.

The attack occurred about 11:10 a.m. when the victim confronted a man, later identified as White, as he was going through the victim’s possessions in the club’s locker room, the release said. The victim was stabbed multiple times with a screwdriver, and hospitalized with what were initially life-threatening injuries. He now is expected to make a full recovery, police said.

White was arrested in connection with the crime July 16 and is being held in the Will County jail, the release said.

No information was provided as to what led police to White but Naperville Deputy Police Chief Bob Lee noted in the release that city police were assisted in the case by the Elmhurst and Addison police departments.

“This was an extremely violent attack, and we’re relieved that the victim was not more seriously injured or killed,” Lee said in the release.
