Four people were shot while standing on a sidewalk in Lawndale Tuesday, including two women who were seriously wounded, according to Chicago police. Hours earlier, four others were shot in Altgeld Gardens, including a 14-year-old boy.

Officers and paramedics were called to the 1200 block of South Lawndale Avenue around 8:40 p.m. for a report of a shooting. They located two men who had been shot and later learned two women, 43 and 30, also had been shot and self-transported to separate hospitals.

The 43-year-old arrived at St. Anthony’s Hospital with a gunshot wound to her chest. The 30-year-old arrived at Mount Sinai Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her face. Both women last were listed in serious condition, according to police.

Chicago Fire Department paramedics who responded took a 26-year-old man to Mount Sinai with a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. They also transported a 27-year-old man to the same hospital with a gunshot wound to his left leg, police said. Both men most recently had been reported in good condition.

Officials said it was “unknown what type of weapon was used” during the attack. No arrests had been made and the shooting remained under investigation by detectives.

The shooting was at least the second in Chicago Tuesday resulting in multiple victims. Four people were shot around 3:35 p.m. in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood on the Far South Side.

Officers were called to the 13000 block of South Champlain Avenue near a courtyard where four people had been shot by an unknown person “who produced a handgun and fired shots,” according to police.

A 14-year-old boy was shot in the arm and he was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where he had been listed in good condition. A 24-year-old man was shot in the face and he was taken by paramedics to University of Chicago Medical Center, also in good condition.

A 45-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to her chest and she was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

A fourth person, for whom Chicago police did not release an age or gender, later arrived at University of Chicago suffering a gunshot wound to the arm. That person said they had been shot during the Champlain Avenue attack.

No arrests had been made in that shooting, which also remained under investigation.
