‘At least one funnel cloud’ spotted after tornado warning issued for Wheaton, Elmhurst, Lombard: weather service

At least one funnel cloud has been spotted after a tornado warning was issued for Wheaton, Elmhurst and Lombard, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning, in effect until 4:15 p.m., includes the possibility of “penny-sized” hail, according to the weather service.

At least one funnel cloud was seen, according to the service. Storm sirens could be heard blaring on the Northwest Side of Chicago, in Arlington Heights and in Barrington.

The warning is part of a “complicated” weather system that is moving into the area, possibly to last through the holiday weekend, according to the weather service, which said showers and storms are anticipated into Wednesday evening.
