Running is not only how they met. It’s become part of their story, and part of their relationship. They’ve learned to be patient with each other, as they are not always at the same pace. They know when the other person needs a running buddy, or when they’d rather jog alone. And they know how to gently jostle the other person out of bed and out for a run, even on a drizzly Chicago morning.
Most of the local action at the Rivers Casino in Des Plaines is, unsurprisingly, coming in on the Sox, said Ross Sansone, who helps run the sportsbook. Though people can bet remotely via the casino’s BetRivers app, he said he expects a big crowd to wager in person Sunday, when the evening Sox game will be paired with NFL football.

While the Bears have not offered an update on Cohen, who suffered a torn ACL in his right knee more than 12 months ago in a Week 3 victory at Atlanta, he remains on the physically unable to perform list. Based on observations, Cohen doesn’t look close to being cleared to return to practice. Based on PUP rules, he could return to practice as soon as Week 7 but that seems unlikely. When Cohen jogged out of the tunnel at Soldier Field on Sunday, he wasn’t moving with a normal gait. He still has a noticeable limp that he moved with during training camp.

The grandchildren of legendary Chicago gangster Al Capone will sell 174 family heirlooms at an Oct. 8 auction titled “A Century of Notoriety: The Estate of Al Capone” in Sacramento, California. The family heirlooms include his favorite gun that he called “Sweetheart” (estimated value $150K), his diamond-monogrammed watch ($50K), engraved jewelry, furniture from the Palm Island home, family photos and more. Among those charged was Anthony Allen, a six-time All-Defensive team selection and a member of the 2008 champion Boston Celtics. His wife was also indicted. For the most part, though, the ex-players charged had journeyman careers playing for several different teams and never reached anywhere close to the enormous stardom or salary that top players command.

One runner, a Michigan police officer with a heart condition, died, although the Cook County medical examiner’s office determined his death was not heat-related.
Wiederer: Right. The good news for Fields and the Bears is that, barring injury, he will finish this season with 62-plus quarters of experience. That extensive playing time, through all the ups and downs, will prove invaluable. And given that Fields has proved he has the resolve to endure struggle, the mindset to continually pursue growth and the temperament to avoid becoming overwhelmed, there was little sense forcing him to continue his development off to the side.
The Sox lost those two home games to fall 3-1 in the series, ending the season for La Russa’s first playoff team. A lineup full of Sox sluggers, including Ron Kittle, Harold Baines and Greg Luzinski, hit a collective .211 with no home runs in the four games, proving once again anything can happen in October.
