The McFetridge Drive bridge over southbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive, south of Roosevelt Road, needs “emergency repairs,” the Chicago Department of Transportation wrote in a statement. Three southbound lanes will be closed for “several hours as a precautionary measure” throughout Saturday afternoon.
The most recent shooting happened shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday in the South Loop neighborhood in the 1300 block of South Michigan Avenue, police said. A 20-year-old woman and her boyfriend were traveling in a vehicle when three people in another vehicle opened fire, striking her in the left elbow, authorities said. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where her condition was stabilized.
“I’m not resigning,” she said, adding that she planned to appeal her termination as chief to the city council. Capparelli said in the letter that if he initiated termination proceedings, she would be placed on administrative duty and would report to the city clerk starting Tuesday. Malec, however, said she has spoken to the city clerk and requested time off next week.

Several unions, including the Fraternal Order of Police and the Chicago Federation of Labor, have been opposed to a vaccination mandate and are likely to resist discipline.
