“The intentional and orchestrated discriminatory conduct across Itasca’s key governmental entities is designed to interfere with the rights of Haymarket Center, the people with disabilities it serves, and their families,” attorney Mary Rosenberg of Access Living, an advocacy center for the disabled that is representing Haymarket in the lawsuit, said in a statement announcing the lawsuit.

Other citywide data show Chicago is averaging 4,793 daily cases and a 18.9% positivity rate, both down from the previous week. But the caseload remains at the highest levels since the start of the pandemic. Hospitalizations and deaths are up at 187 and 17, respectively, which Arwady attributed to the latest omicron wave catching up to the health care system.

“There were a lot of frustrating parts,” McCaskey said when asked about the 2021 season. “Another lengthy losing streak. We had one in 2019, one in 2020, one in 2021. Usually, those are season-enders. I admire the way our guys stuck together, didn’t point fingers, but at some point the general manager and head coach have to come up with a way to snap us out of a losing streak before the season is ruined.”

The variant’s prevalence is probably both because it is easily transmissible and it likely can, to some extent, evade immunity gained from vaccines or previously having the virus, Barbian said. But vaccines remain effective, especially at preventing severe cases of COVID-19, and are particularly important to keep people out of hospitals as they are becoming overburdened with patients, she said.

The boy’s mother, Jannie M. Perry, who is charged in Damari’s death, lost custody of her six other children in 2014 after a DCFS domestic violence investigation, department spokesman Bill McCaffrey said Monday. Shortly after Damari was born on Dec. 30, 2015, he also went into foster care. DCFS records show that Perry regained custody of her children in 2017.
