“Running our second largest city, crime has come down because the police budget has gone up. I hired more cops each year. We’ve recruited new companies, turned old properties into economic engines and we’ve controlled spending, balanced budgets, so residents got property tax relief,” Irvin says. “I promise you, we can overcome the challenges. It’s what I’m good at.”
Typically, a weather system can change air pressure in a matter of hours, but the changes observed in the volcanic explosion occurred much more quickly, Leatherwood said. Although the pressure change was detected locally, people in Illinois wouldn’t have felt any noticeable difference as a result, he added.
According to law enforcement officials in December, the other victims at the Amazon warehouse were Deandre Morrow, 28, and Etheria Hebb, 34, both of St. Louis; and Illinois residents Kevin Dickey, 62, of Carlyle; Clayton Lynn Cope, 29, of Alton; and Larry Virden, 46, of Collinsville.
“More recently, few stations in the country have live, local overnight shows, so Les’ presence was very important. He was underappreciated. Personally, Les was like everybody’s unique brother or cousin. He had his eccentricities, as do we all, but he was very likable. No one didn’t like Les Grobstein. Heck, he became friends with Lee Elia, and that has lasted for decades.”
Medical workers tried to improve Saint’s respiration, then sent her to a hospital — which sent her back to the nursing home, before she was returned to the hospital, where she died. Saint’s ordeal came after her daughter, a registered nurse, said the home had been slow, in her opinion, to diagnose her condition and failed to treat it aggressively. The daughter, Marlene Bryan, filed a complaint over her mother’s treatment with the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Dr. Edward Huang, an infectious disease specialist, and Kim Chhay, who has worked as a hospital pharmacist, filed a complaint in Cook County court last month asking a judge to reverse a Chicago Board of Education decision to seek tuition reimbursement and kick their son out of his West Rogers Park classical school. The couple’s attorney, Steven Glink, said the board reached conclusions for its own convenience in this case.
“There is no risk to the person being identified or questioned. You can knock on the door, ring the bell, get our attention, we will take the child from you, thank you and you’re on your way,” said Larry Langford, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.
“In business, he was a hands-on leader who showed the best our Gary community has to offer. As a public servant, including his time on the Gary Community School Corp. Advisory Board, Mr. Bailey showed his heart and love for his neighbors and the children throughout our City.”
The numbers likely will get a reality check soon when the Denver Broncos, owned by a trust, go up for sale. Forbes puts the team’s value at $3.75 billion, but David Berri, a Southern Utah University professor who co-wrote a book about the economics of the Super Bowl, said it could sell for much more.
