A McHenry County department of health news release stated that “swimmer’s itch,” or cercarial dermatitis, is an “allergic reaction to certain microscopic parasites that infect some birds and mammals. These parasites are released from infected snails into the water. If the parasite comes into contact with a swimmer, it burrows into the skin causing an allergic reaction and rash.”

The victim was driving in the 2300 block of North Elmwood Avenue at about 10 p.m. when he and his passenger, a Waukegan woman in her 20s, encountered a man in a parking lot. During the encounter, the suspect fired into the victim’s vehicle, wounding the victim in the head and shoulder.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that one of our students, sophomore Samantha Cerrone, has passed away following a tragic accident,” Dubravec wrote. “Our thoughts, prayers, and love go out to her parents and all of her friends and family during this extraordinarily difficult time.
