“If a student does not show up, (the school) will be calling every number they can find and working to reconnect the student to school. “He’s hit the ball really hard,” La Russa said. “But that last pitch, the slider got too much of the plate, and the guy put a good swing on it. That’s what’s so good about putting the ball in play, sometimes it finds a hole. The guy, Kirk, even when we’ve got him out, it’s been scary. Just got to figure a different way to approach him.”
To many, police officers simply are not equipped to respond to calls of people experiencing mental health-related distress.
