As an adult, however, I look back on that year and feel unsettled and squeamish; Mr. K would often comment on my looks and how he liked my hair styled best. He would drop by my house unannounced to bring me books, and once on a school-related outing, he drove me and a few other students to his home (he lived alone) to give us a tour of the house.
Florida State rallied to force overtime, with Jordan Travis connecting with Andrew Parchment on an 8-yard touchdown strike early in the fourth, Treshaun Ward scoring on a 2-yard run and Fitzgerald tying it with a 43-yard field goal with 40 seconds left.
Aaronson won a throw-in, and the U.S. made a series of quick passes as well as it has done. Jordan Pefok sent the ball to Pulisic and Tyler Adams, who gave it back to Pefok. He passed to Kellyn Acosta, who sent it wide to Antonee Robinson. He crossed in front, and Aaronson poked the ball past goalkeeper Milan Borjan for the 20-year-old’s fourth international goal.
“To me, it just means cool under pressure, and I think that suits my personality really well,” said Cantlay, who never changed his expression until a big smile when he tapped in for birdie and a 1-under 69, waving his cap to thousands of fans around the green.
“Unsurprisingly to anyone who stepped outside the last few months, summer 2021 in Chicago was warm and humid,” Trent Ford, Illinois state climatologist, wrote in an email to the Tribune. “The average temperature was 75.3 degrees, the eighth highest on record (back to 1873). This compares to 76.7 degrees last summer, which was the warmest summer on record. Four of the top 10 warmest summers on record in Chicago have occurred since 2010 (2010, 2012, 2020, 2021).”
“We had other at-bats in the three days, ball stayed in the park, right? So there is a way we were going to go after him and we made mistakes and he punished us. But the plan was if you’re going to make a mistake, don’t make it over the plate, make it off the plate. Paid dearly. Not (Saturday), but we paid (Sunday).”
Riquna Williams was fouled as she made a jumper from the top of the key to trim the Aces’ deficit to 87-84 with 2:18 to play, but she missed the free throw. The Aces went 0 for 6 from the field from there, while the Sky made 5 of 6 from the foul line to seal it.
This Monday’s holiday has deep Chicago roots: It was the Pullman factory strike of 1894 that led to the establishment of Labor Day as a national holiday. Decades later, the famous Pullman Porters would form the first Black union to receive a collective bargaining agreement with a major U.S. corporation.
Edsall, 63, coached 16 total seasons in Storrs, from 1999-2010 and again since 2017. He left UConn to take the head coaching position at Maryland following the 2010 season, and replaced Bob Diaco ahead of the 2017 season. He has a 76-95 record with the Huskies, 98-129 overall at the college level.
“Tired, sore, you know, there is a combination there, not just fatigue,” La Russa said. “I think he’s got some soreness to him. You’ve all heard it before and it’s true, whether it’s arm, legs, back, soreness is you live with in this game. You don’t ever play not sore, if you’re pitching or playing. But you recognize sore versus hurt and we don’t want to get him hurt.”
