Players and teams enter deadline day far apart on many key issues and unresolved on others. The most contentious proposals involve luxury tax thresholds and rates, the size of a new bonus pool for pre-arbitration players, minimum salaries, salary arbitration eligibility and the union’s desire to change the club revenue sharing formula.
A worker shortage is affecting many carriers, though United might be particularly hard hit, said Mike Klemm, president of the union that represents ramp agents, customer service workers, baggage handlers and others at United and other airlines. Until recently, some employees were required to work longer hours to keep up with the airline’s schedules, he said.
“When someone is writing in caps, ‘THIS IS OVER, STOP PRETENDING,’ (they ignore that) thousands of people died in the last week,” said Aaron McManus, a tech recruiter who participated in the group. “What do you do when you can’t agree on reality? How do you have a community conversation about the decisions to make?”

“Liberty, democracy and humanity will beat tyranny and oppression every time, but only if we resist in solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” Gov. J.B. Pritzker, one of several local, state and federal elected officials in attendance, told the crowd.

“FIFA will continue its ongoing dialogue with the IOC, UEFA and other sport organizations to determine any additional measures or sanctions,” FIFA said in a statement, “including a potential exclusion from competitions, that shall be applied in the near future should the situation not be improving rapidly.”
