Earlier this month, Davidson said of Hagel: “Brandon’s really turned himself into a very valuable player to us and I think everyone else recognizes that, too. He’s a bona fide NHL player that has some very desirable attributes and his age (23) also makes him a desirable player to us, to many other teams that are not just contending for the Stanley Cup but also desirable to them, as well.

“A few years after getting inaugurated, I stand here with all of you, and I stand here saying the hope is here,” Villa said. “We are ready, we know what the issues are with mental health, we know that there needs to be changes. And the future depends on it, our students’ lives, our children’s lives, our families’ lives, our community lives, the lives of the communities of color that have been disproportionately impacted by so much in regards to COVID.

The donation comes as people across the country are grappling with higher-than-average gas prices. In the city of Chicago, the average price of regular gas was $4.84 per gallon on Thursday, which is up from $3.28 a year ago, according to AAA. Wilson said the average gas price has “gone well over $4 a gallon for the first time in nearly 14 years,” and the war in Ukraine, a ban on Russian oil and high taxes are all contributing factors.

During the league’s negotiating window earlier this week, we agreed to terms with him, subject to him passing a physical here. After a standard and thorough physical and medical review with Larry yesterday afternoon, our medical team deemed him to have failed his physical and therefore, unfortunately, we are not signing him today. This is difficult and it is emotional for everyone involved, but ultimately is what is in the best interest of protecting the Chicago Bears.”
