A second man has been charged in connection with last November’s shooting death of a 25-year-old Homewood man shot multiple times while sitting in his car, according to police and court records.

Homewood police said 22-year-old Ryan Carter, of the 1000 block of Markham Park Drive in Flossmoor, was arrested July 14 and charged with one count of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Darion Duncan.

A warrant for Carter’s arrest, carrying the charge of first-degree murder and that he should be held without bail, was issued April 11 and he is next due to appear in court Aug. 9, according to court records.

Cook County sheriff records do not show him being held pending his next court date.

Carter joins Nicholas Matthews, 22, of the 15600 block of Madison Avenue in Dolton, in facing charges in the Nov. 27, 2022, shooting.

Duncan was sitting in his car outside his home in the 15700 block of Dixmoor Drive when he was shot multiple times, according to police.

Homewood police at the time said they responded at about 1:30 a.m Nov. 27 to the address for a report of shots fired and found Duncan in his vehicle, describing the shooting as a targeted attack.

Homewood investigators were working with members of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force on the case, and Matthews was arrested April 27 by Homewood police, according to court records.

Matthews was booked into Cook County Jail April 29 and is being held without bond, according to court records.

An indictment containing charges including first-degree murder was handed up by a Cook County grand jury May 25, according to records.

Matthews is being held without bail at Cook County Jail and is next due to appear at the Markham courthouse Sept. 11, according to court and jail records.
