A 27-year-old Chicago man was found fatally wounded in a vehicle in Oak Brook after police and fire department personnel responded to a 911 call of a shooting near 22nd Street and Camden Court.

Police said a 911 call came in about 12:05 a.m. Wednesday of an unconfirmed number of shots being fired into a vehicle. Upon arriving on the scene, Oak Brook police and fire personnel found a man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. They have not released the man’s name.

“It appears to be a targeted killing,” Village President Larry Herman said.

The shooting victim was a passenger in the vehicle, driven by a woman who was unharmed, said Oak Brook Police Chief Brian Strockis.

“We are working through leads,” he said.

The location of the incident is mostly commercial, with one apartment building nearby.

Police said the slaying appears to be an isolated occurrence and it appears that the offender, unknown at this time, poses no threat to the public.

Police have asked that anyone who may have seen something suspicious or has information related to the incident contact Sgt. Jason Wood, 630-368-8742, or jwood@oak-brook.org.

This is the first fatal shooting in Oak Brook since 2011, police said.

Chicago Tribune’s Deanese Williams-Harris contributed.
