One person died, and three children and at least four adults were injured in a four-car accident in the South Deering neighborhood Saturday afternoon, Chicago Police Department officials said.

A 24-year-old man driving a pickup truck was also driving north on South Torrence Avenue with one other person in the car, as was a 58-year-old woman driving an SUV without any passengers, police said.

While driving north, the driver of the sedan crossed over into the southbound lane and struck the southbound SUV head-on. The drivers of the pickup truck and the other SUV both attempted to avoid the accident. The truck hit a light pole, and the SUV hit an object, according to police.
