Four people were shot and one killed early Friday morning during a gathering at a home in the 100 block of Fir Street in Park Forest, police say.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds after the shooting at about 3:30 a.m., police said. A fourth person was treated at the scene and refused transport to the hospital, officials said.
The Park Forest Police Department, assisted by the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, is investigating. In a news release, police said a significant police presence remains in the area, but said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
