A Chicago man who was on the run since September remained in custody of the DuPage County Jail on Wednesday after he was apprehended this week in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.

Devin M. Revels, 27, was arrested Tuesday night in a business in the 800 block of West Belmont Avenue, an area investigators learned Revels had recently started to frequent, according to a statement from Elmhurst police Chief Michael McLean.

Revels, of Chicago’s West Side, was being held on $50,000 bond after being booked Tuesday into the DuPage County Jail.

The ordeal began back in September, when Revels was arrested by Elmhurst police for a catalytic converter theft in DuPage County, along with another suspect, McLean said.

But around 2 p.m. that same day, as Revels was being taken back to Elmhurst in a marked police squad car on the westbound Eisenhower Expressway, Revels kicked out the back window of the police car, jumped out and ran to the Columbus Park Golf Course on Chicago’s West Side, McLean said.

It was not how or if Revels was restrained in the police car when he escaped near the Austin exit.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for receiving or possessing a stolen essential motor vehicle part, escape from a peace officer and criminal damage to government-supported property, McLean said. Revels was also wanted on an unrelated Cook County arrest warrant for aggravated assault.

Tuesday’s arrest was made by Elmhurst police, with the help of the Cook County sheriff’s office, Chicago police and other suburban agencies.

Revels, of the 800 block of South Keeler Avenue, is due back in court on Jan. 19.
