Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart will provide an update Friday regarding the Highland Park mass shooting.
The shooting during the Highland Park Independence Day parade claimed the lives of seven people and left dozen others injured, ranging in age from 8 to 85 years old.
After an hourslong search, authorities arrested 21-year-old Robert “Bobby” Crimo III. A day later, he was charged with seven counts of first-degree murder in what Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart called a “premeditated and calculated attack.”
Crimo was later charged with more than 100 felonies in the shooting.
Over the last three months, he has been named in a dozen lawsuits that have been filed on behalf of parade shooting victims. The suits have targeted Crimo and the manufacturer of the assault rifle Crimo allegedly used to fire more than 80 rounds from a store rooftop into the crowd gathered in downtown Highland Park for the parade. The store where Crimo bought the rifle is also named, as is Crimo’s father.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
