An off-duty suburban police officer and a man were shot during a traffic crash on the city’s Far South Side Saturday evening, officials said.

It happened about 6:15 p.m. in the 10300 block of South Crandon Avenue, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.

When the traffic crash happened, shots were fired and the off-duty officer, a woman, was shot along with another man, said Langford. The officer went to the nearby 4th District Chicago police station and police took her to the University of Chicago Medical Center, Langford said. Her condition was not known.

The man who was shot did not suffer life-threatening injuries and he was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center by ambulance. Two other people hurt in the car crash were taken to Trinity Hospital, and were also expected to survive, according to Langford.
