A Chicago man charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a woman multiple times in the hotel room where he was staying has been denied bond.

Willie Tidwell, 50, of the 300 block of North Avenue, is accused of knifing the woman in the stomach, neck and chest after they got into an altercation about 9:15 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Extended Stay America hotel, 1827 Center Point Circle, a news release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

The woman, described as an acquaintance who was involved in a romantic relationship with the suspect, met Tidwell at his room, where a verbal fight became physical and Tidwell allegedly started hitting the victim before attacking her with a knife 11 times, the release said.

After Tidwell fled, the woman called police. He was arrested Friday at a home in Calumet City, the release said.

In addition to attempted murder, a class X felony, Tidwell was also charged with aggravated domestic battery, a class 2 felony.

DuPage County Judge George Ford refused Tidwell’s request for bond Saturday. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 31.

“This was a brutal act that could very easily have been fatal, and I’m incredibly grateful that the victim in this case is recovering,” Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said in the release.
