Chicagoans with Home Run Inn pizzas in their freezers should check their product labels.
The Woodridge-based company is recalling more than 13,000 pounds of pizza that may be contaminated with metal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Sunday.

The recalled pizzas are the family-owned company’s deluxe sausage flavor and have a “best buy” date of Dec. 3, 2022, the USDA said. They have the establishment number “EST. 18498-A” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The recall comes after consumers reported finding metal in the pizza, the USDA said. There were no confirmed reports of injuries due to consumption of contaminated pizzas.

People who have bought the pizzas should throw them out or return them, the USDA said. Consumers can receive a full refund by returning unconsumed pizzas in their original packaging to their place of purchase, Home Run Inn spokesperson Brian Lowe said. Retailers are being asked to stop selling the pizzas.
In a statement, Lowe said the company was working closely with the USDA to issue the recall.
“The safety of our customers and quality of our Home Run Inn products is paramount,” Lowe said.
According to the company’s online product locator, Home Run Inn frozen pizzas are sold in a variety of Chicago grocery and convenience stores, including Jewel-Osco, Save-A-Lot, Target, Walgreens, Foxtrot, 7 Eleven and Food 4 Less.
The company’s frozen pizza business boomed as many people stayed home early in the COVID-19 pandemic, when workers at its Woodridge plant started churning out pizzas to the tune of 78,000 frozen flatbreads a day.
