The ‘Captivating’ Central Region of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. willcelebrate 100 years of the sorority’s founding as official sponsors of the Black Women’s Expo and BudBilliken Parade Saturday, August 12-14, 2022. Hundreds of members ofthe sorority will demonstrate its motto of Greater Service, Greater Progress by giving back to the Chicago area through our nationalinitiatives; Operation Big Book Bag,Project Cradle Care, and by awarding academic scholarships.
In partnership with the Beacon ofLight Foundation, Eta Xi SigmaAlumnae Chapter and State Farm, Sigma Gamma Rho will donate 1500bookbags to Chicago area students during both the Black Women’s Expoon Friday, August 12 and the Bud Billiken Festival in Washington Parkon Saturday, August 13. Our Project Cradle Care Prenatal Health Program seeks to improve pregnancy outcomes in high-risk communities by increasing thenumber of women of childbearing age who receive adequate prenatal education and care. A workshop entitled, “Black Maternal Health Awareness” will be held on Sunday, August 14 at the Expo.
On July 28, 2022, two recipients of the Bud Billiken Scholarship were awarded a total of $5,000 in scholarships on behalf of the Captivating Central Region of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. “This is absolutely amazing and a trueprivilege for the region to be able toaward college bound students in our Centennial year,” said Loreal N. Marshall, Regional Director.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.continues to place emphasis onsocial action and community impact as part of its commitment to serve. The sorority addresses concerns that impact society educationally, civically, and economically. The Central Region consists of thefollowing states: Illinois, Indiana,Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan,Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. In addition, theCanadian Divisions of Windsor, Ontario, and west to Saskatchewan as well as Baffin Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Queen Elizabeth Islands and Germany.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.was organized on November 12,1922 at Butler University inIndianapolis, Indiana by seven young educators. It is the mission of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. to enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the U.S. andglobally through community service, civil, and social action. Our goal is to achieve greater progress in the areas of education, health awareness, and leadershipdevelopment.
