A Chicago man has been charged in connection with a May 10 shooting in Oak Lawn that left a man seriously wounded, police said Monday.
Mario Mallard, 36, was arrested Sunday at O’Hare International Airport by U.S. Customs agents and Oak Lawn detectives after returning from the Dominican Republic, police said.

He is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and during an initial court appearance Monday had bail set at $250,000, according to police.
Police had said the shooting stemmed from an apparent road rage incident.

Oak Lawn police said a sergeant was in the area of 107th Street and Cicero Avenue at about 6 p.m. when he heard two gunshots, and soon found a man, described as in his 40s, on the ground in the parking lot of a nearby business.
The man was bleeding from two gunshot wounds and taken Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to police.
Mallard fled the area in a vehicle, with Oak Lawn and other police agencies pursuing, but the pursuit was suspended at one point, police said.
According to Oak Lawn Police chief Dan Vittorio, the suspected shooter got on Interstate 294 and began speeding at over 100 mph, at which point law enforcement couldn’t keep up.
Vittorio said the suspected shooter and the victim got into some kind of altercation and the two men exited their vehicles and approached each other when the assailant produced a gun and shot the victim.
More information about the investigation leading to the arrest was not immediately available from police.
