A man who stopped to help a goose get out of traffic Monday was struck and killed by a vehicle on St. Charles Street/Route 25 in Elgin Township, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office said.
Rateb Arqan, 59, of West Chicago, pulled over on the side of the road at 1200 St. Charles St. about 6 a.m. to help remove the goose from the southbound lanes of traffic, a sheriff’s office news release said.
As he was moving the bird, 29-year-old Juan Padilla-Regalado was driving southbound on St. Charles Street and stuck him with his Chevrolet Express Van, the report said.
Arqan was pronounced dead at the scene. Padilla-Regalado was treated by emergency medical workers at the scene and released, officials said.
The case is under investigation by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division and the Kane County Drone Team.
