The Peterbilt truck and the 2002 Chevrolet Venture minivan were both headed south on Route 12, with the truck in the outside lane and the van in the inside lane. Police said the van, for an unknown reason, attempted to turn right onto westbound Deer Park from the inside lane, and drove into the path of the truck. The truck, which was carrying a partial load of gravel, struck the van which then struck a utility pole, authorities said.
