The wind also resulted in a smattering of power outages, according to ComEd spokesman John Schoen. Because the wind was unrelenting, he said the number of customers affected greatly varied at different points. At one time there were 1,000 customers without power. By 5 a.m., there were fewer than 200 customers without power — but that number was back at 800 about 11 a.m., Schoen said. The utility counts each individual metered electrical service line, some of which serve multiunit dwellings, as a customer.
