What happened to our mild winter? February. Now it’s one for the record books.

Scientists use the accumulated winter season severity index to gauge how lousy, or nice, a winter is. The index measures the intensity and persistence of cold weather, how often and how much it snows, and the snowpack and how long it sticks around. The index does not measure wind chills, ice or blowing snow.
