Rare hummingbird’s stop in LaBagh Woods is a once-in-a-lifetime sight for Chicago birders

The striking bird, with teal plumage and a bill that’s a flash of red, is generally found summering in Mexico, along with areas in southern Arizona and New Mexico. How it ended up flitting between trees more than 1,500 miles from its usual grounds is a bit of a mystery. Birders believe its navigation system is broken, and it had some bad luck with strong winds.
