PPP changes helping small minority-owned Chicago businesses land loans: ‘I’m glad somebody saw the light’

Barbara Wright, 59, a teacher and Lyft driver who lives in Englewood on Chicago’s South Side, received a $1,085 forgivable PPP loan last summer. Battling breast cancer and unable to drive during the pandemic, she reapplied for a PPP loan during the relaunched program in January, and is now eligible to receive $6,336 after the Biden administration announced more favorable relief for sole proprietors.
