“We always accused him of being able to sneak out to or driving to some indoor hitting facility, because he came back and his cardio was good, his actions were good swinging the bat,” Sox manager Tony La Russa said Thursday. “I’m sure he did everything legally, but he worked out. The other thing is if your mind is right, it really helps when you get back and you shorten your timeframe. You don’t have to get your mind going. He obviously was ready, more than ready.”
