Monday’s step has been in the works for years, and there was little new information disclosed, including how much the state expects the building at 100 W. Randolph St. to fetch. But it’s a necessary part of the process to sell the building, which Pritzker and previous governors have argued is a drain on state finances because it’s inefficient to operate and in need of hundreds of millions of dollars in repairs.
