Why all of this Sturm und Drang? After all, it was not as if Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were quitting the domestic Premier League (although by Monday it was looking as if the Premier League may quit them). What they were proposing, along with Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Athletico Madrid, Barcelona and the team known as JP Morgan, was to become a replacement for or a rival to the UEFA Champions League, a midweek European competition for which clubs have qualified by doing well in their domestic leagues.
