Gov. J.B. Pritzker signs Illinois Legislative Black Caucus’ economic reform package

“For as long as I can remember, our neighborhoods have been full of nontraditional lenders that prey on people who are too poor to get loans from traditional banks,” state Sen. Kimberly Lightford, a Maywood Democrat, said during Tuesday’s signing ceremony at Union Baptist Church in Springfield. “It’s ironic, but not at all funny, that the poorer you are, the more you have to pay to access your own money or to get an emergency loan.”
