One family is seeking answers from authorities about their son, Javion Magee, a 21-year-old truck driver from the Chicagoland area who was found hanging from a tree in Henderson, North Carolina.
On Sept. 11, posts and videos began circulating on social media about Magee’s death.
According to TikTok user @scottieprimpin, who said they’re his cousin, Magee was making a stop in Henderson on Sept. 10 on his truck route.
“The police officers are trying to say that he went to Walmart and purchased the rope and hung themselves. We obviously don’t believe that. We are just asking for your help to push your story out there,” they said during the video.
On Facebook, a post from a woman who identified herself as his mother also said authorities called his death a suicide.
“Please help me flood the news stations. My son was found hung from a tree in Henderson, NC. They are trying to say it’s a suicide but the information provided is not adding up,” she wrote. “I would never wish this on anyone. Please help!”
The TRiiBE reached out to the Henderson Police Department in North Carolina for more information. A representative from the Henderson Police Department said the case falls outside their jurisdiction and said the Vance County Sheriff’s Office is the agency that will be investigating.
Reached by phone on Sept. 13 at 9:52 a.m., Vance County Sheriff Curtis Brame said he’d forward a press release detailing what happened to Magee. The TRiiBE still hasn’t received the press release.
This is a developing story check back for updates.
