“It’s the only thing my dad and I ever argued about,” Marvel said. “He grew up with no money. And he used to say, ‘I got out of the service and I had nothing and I made it. Why can’t everyone do that?’ Well, you were white, it was the ’50s, you had family to live with. That bugged me for years. And I think a lot of people have that perception that people who are homeless just aren’t willing to work or they don’t know things. And that’s just not true.”
