That’s why the American Indian Center is reaching out to the community with a GoFundMe campaign to help build the Coil Mound, designed by artist Santiago X, in Horner Park. The public art installation, an effigy mound that will resemble a coiled snake, will pay homage to those who inhabited the land before colonization. Historic effigy mounds made of soil, some in the shapes of birds and bears, can be found in Cahokia, Illinois, among other sites.
